# Connect to Canvas Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/canvas/connect-canvas Add a Canvas portal link for quick student authentication, and sync assignments and grades with Canvas. ## Prerequisites * You've already completed the [Connect your SIS](/canvas/connect-sis) guide. * Administrator access to Canvas. ## What you get After this connection, teachers and students can open Type the Word from Canvas. Type the Word assignments and grades sync with Canvas. ## Request the LMS Connect invite Email Josh Wootonn at [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com) and ask him to send an LMS Connect invite to the same administrator email you used for [Connect your SIS](/canvas/connect-sis). Wait for that email before you continue. > [!NOTE] > > This link expires in 48 hours and works only for the invited email. Email > [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com) for a new invite if it > expires. ## Connect Canvas in AnySchool Follow Clever's [Connecting your learning applications and LMS with AnySchool](https://support.clever.com/s/articles/000001734) guide. Open the link in Josh's email, choose Canvas, and create the LMS Connect developer key when Clever asks. This is a new Canvas developer key. Do not reuse the key from [Connect your SIS](/canvas/connect-sis). That key is only for Canvas sign-in. To add the Type the Word launch link in Canvas, follow Clever's [LTI SSO for LMS Connect](https://support.clever.com/s/articles/000001647). ## Wait for record matching Clever matches Canvas users to the AnySchool roster. That usually takes 2–3 days. You will receive an email when matching is complete. You can generate LTI 1.3 links for Type the Word while you wait. Those launches do not work until the matching email arrives. ## Setup complete Canvas setup is complete when the matching email arrives and a teacher can launch Type the Word from Canvas. Continue with [teacher setup](/canvas/teacher-setup). ## Troubleshooting * **The invite expired:** Email [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com) for a new LMS Connect link. * **Logins fail after setup:** Wait for the matching-complete email before teachers and students launch from Canvas. # Connect your SIS Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/canvas/connect-sis Get an AnySchool invite, connect your roster in Clever, and confirm Type the Word imported the right schools and classes. ## Prerequisites * Admin access to Canvas * Admin access to your SIS * A current roster of the schools, sections, teachers, and students who will use Type the Word > [!NOTE] > > Type the Word uses > [AnySchool](https://support.clever.com/s/articles/000001726) to import your > roster. You do this from the invite we send after you share your interest. > You do not need to create a Clever account. ## Request an invite **1. Share your interest** [Share your interest with Type the Word](https://www.typetheword.com/christian-schools#interest). You will get an automated email. Reply to it and mention that you want to try the Canvas AnySchool integration. **2. Open the invite** Josh will invite you to connect to Type the Word. Open the email from **App Onboarding**. The subject is **"Connect to Type the Word via AnySchool"**. Select **"Verify email and begin set up"**. ![AnySchool invite email with a numbered arrow pointing at Verify email and begin set up](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/canvas/connect-sis/invite-email.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=dd7caffec1863153e89b4fd9374bc694) **3. Start setup** Review the security notes, then select **"Get started"**. You do not need to create an account. > [!WARNING] > > This link expires in 48 hours. Email > [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com) for a new invite if it > expires. ## Connect your roster in AnySchool Follow Clever's [Rostering applications with AnySchool](https://support.clever.com/s/articles/000001726) guide to choose a data source, send the roster, and set up Canvas SSO. Two Type the Word notes while you are in that guide: * Do not skip **"Set up SSO"**. Select **"Canvas"** even if the step is marked **"Optional"**. Teachers and students should sign in from Canvas. * If your SIS is not listed, prefer **"SFTP Directory"** so roster updates can land automatically. Use **"CSV upload"** only for a one-time import. Clever documents SFTP in [How to set up AnySchool SFTP uploads](https://support.clever.com/hc/s/articles/000001754). ## Verify the roster After you finish AnySchool, wait for the **"Type the Words CSV Sync Report"** email from Type the Word. Confirm **"Your upload was successful!"** and that the student, teacher, section, school, and staff counts match your roster. ![Type the Word CSV sync report email with numbered arrows pointing at Your upload was successful and the synced record counts](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/canvas/connect-sis/sync-report.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=ce456b775d02ecc4935b80d2cb401987) If the email lists errors, select **"Download error report"**, fix those rows, and upload again. ## Setup complete Nice work. Type the Word has access to your roster. Teachers and students can already log in with Canvas. Email Josh Wootonn at [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com) and ask him to send the **"Instant Login Link"** so you can test that. There is one more step. To let Type the Word manage your assignments and grades in Canvas, set up [LMS Connect](/canvas/connect-canvas). ## Troubleshooting * **The invite expired:** Email [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com) for a new AnySchool link. * **The sync-report email lists errors:** Select **"Download error report"**, correct those rows, and upload the files again. * **A user is missing:** Confirm the user is in a shared section in the files or SIS share you sent to AnySchool. * **Only badge login appears:** Canvas SSO was not finished. Return to **"Set up SSO"** in the AnySchool guide, select **"Canvas"**, and enter the developer key. # Get started with Canvas Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/canvas/index This guide walks you through connecting your SIS to Type the Word to roster your classes, and connecting to Canvas for assignment management. Type the Word uses Clever [AnySchool](https://support.clever.com/s/articles/000001726) to import your schools, sections, teachers, and students. After that roster is in place, [Clever LMS Connect](https://support.clever.com/s/articles/000001734) sends assignments and grades to Canvas. Teachers and students launch Type the Word from Canvas after matching finishes. If your district already uses Clever, follow [Clever setup](/clever) instead. ## Before you begin * SIS administrator access so you can connect or export the roster Type the Word should import * Canvas administrator access so someone can create a **"Developer Key"** ## Onboarding path **1. Administrator: SIS** Follow the [Connect your SIS](/canvas/connect-sis) guide. This will allow your students to log in to Type the Word with their Canvas credentials. **2. Administrator: Canvas** Follow the [Connect to Canvas](/canvas/connect-canvas) guide. This will allow Type the Word to automatically create and manage assignments in Canvas for your teacher. **3. Continue by sharing the [student setup guide](/canvas/student-setup). ## Troubleshooting * **No classes appear:** Ask your administrator to confirm your sections are in the AnySchool roster and matched to Canvas. * **Roster is out of date:** Confirm Canvas and your SIS contain the correction. Type the Word syncs your roster nightly. # Assign a Bible curriculum Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/assign-a-bible-curriculum Once your students have learned the basics of using a keyboard, you can assign a Bible curriculum so they can continue practicing their typing skills while typing through the actual Bible. ## Create a curriculum goal If they still need keyboard basics, start with a [typing program](/classroom/assign-a-typing-program). But assuming they are familiar with the keyboard, head to **"Dashboard"**, click **"Create Goal"**, and find one of the Bible curricula there. There are some great options, including **"Miracles of Jesus - Luke"** or **"Through the Bible in 20 Days"**. ![Create Goal curriculum picker with numbered arrows pointing at Miracles of Jesus - Luke and Through the Bible in 20 Days](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/create-goal-picker.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=1382199f53599e883ae5c79adaa842cf) Once you've selected a curriculum, you can customize the name, translation, and description, and then click **"Create Goal"** to use this curriculum in your class. ![Create Goal form for Miracles of Jesus - Luke with numbered arrows pointing at Name, Translation, and Description](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/create-goal-customize.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=bf2aa4dc400516cfee58abf9fde61307) ## Publish the next assignment Now that you have a goal, you can open the menu for the first assignment and click **"Publish"** so that it shows up for your students and in your LMS. ![Goal detail with the assignment actions menu open and a numbered arrow pointing at Publish](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/goal-detail.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=e3807c79090e3e3d0656335d429e603c) With your students typing the Bible, you can now follow along with their progress on the [**"Students"**](/classroom/monitor-student-progress) page. # Assign a typing program Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/assign-a-typing-program There are three typing programs built into Type the Word to help your students learn how to use a keyboard. ## Keyboard Foundations **"Keyboard Foundations"** introduces the letters and the main keys while students discover attributes of God in Scripture. Start here when students are still learning where keys are. To see what each lesson teaches, check out the Scripture used in each [Keyboard Foundations lesson](/curriculum/keyboard-foundations). ## Keyboard Proficiency **"Keyboard Proficiency"** covers numbers and symbols while students trace the promises of God through Scripture. Use it after **"Keyboard Foundations"**, once letters and the main keys are in place. To see what each lesson teaches, check out the Scripture used in each [Keyboard Proficiency lesson](/curriculum/keyboard-proficiency). ## The Story of Scripture **"The Story of Scripture"** walks through the Bible's story from creation to new creation. Use it after **"Keyboard Proficiency"**, when students are ready to type longer Scripture passages. To see what each lesson teaches, check out the Scripture used in each [Story of Scripture lesson](/curriculum/the-story-of-scripture). ## Assign a typing curriculum On **"Dashboard"**, select **"Create Goal"**. Set **"Source"** to **"Type the Word"** to filter the list of curricula to specifically show the typing programs. ![Create Goal curriculum picker with numbered arrows pointing at Source set to Type the Word, Keyboard Foundations, and Keyboard Proficiency](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/create-typing-goal-picker.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=ea7ac16b9f39f9e479221df33b54c65f) Choose **"Keyboard Foundations"**, **"Keyboard Proficiency"**, or **"The Story of Scripture"**, then select **"Create Goal"**. Open the menu for the first assignment and click **"Publish"** so your students can have access to the first lesson. ![Goal detail with the assignment actions menu open and a numbered arrow pointing at Publish](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/goal-detail.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=e3807c79090e3e3d0656335d429e603c) ## These learning programs are always available to your students These three typing curricula are always available to your students. You can learn more about this in [**"When you have no assignments"**](/students/when-you-have-no-assignments). Now that they are familiar with their keyboard, it is time to type some Scripture. Let's [assign a Bible curriculum](/classroom/assign-a-bible-curriculum). # Choose enabled classes Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/choose-enabled-classes Choose which classes use Type the Word and appear in teacher navigation. ## Disable a class Open **"Settings"** and find **"Enabled classes"** under **"Classroom"**. Open the class list next to it, uncheck the classes you don't want, then select **"Save"**. If your class belongs to a school, the list includes every class at your school. Your choice applies to every teacher at the school, so check with them before disabling a shared class. New classes from your roster are enabled by default. ## What changes when a class is disabled * The class no longer appears in the classroom selector. * Roster and LMS syncing continue, including student additions and removals. * Opening the class shows **"This is a disabled classroom. Enable it in Settings to use it again."** Select **"Open Settings"** to re-enable it. ## Re-enable a class Check the class in **"Enabled classes"** again and select **"Save"**. It returns to teacher navigation without needing a catch-up sync. ## Classes on your plan You can pay for enabled or disabled classes. Disabled classes remain grouped under **"Disabled classes"** in **"Billing"**, with a tooltip explaining their status. Paying for a disabled class does not enable it. Disabling a paid class does not remove it from your plan or change its billing coverage. Choose **"Adjust Plan"** to change which classes you pay for. See [How billing works within TTW](/faq/how-billing-works-within-ttw). # Confirm students are connected Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/confirm-students-are-connected Open Students and use the Connection column to see which students have already signed up and connected to Type the Word. ![Students page with numbered arrows pointing at Students and a Connected status](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/students-connection.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=93dda4b6c5f4782d4d8a2adfc85da29b) ## Read the Connection column * **"Connected"** — the student signed in with Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, or Canvas and can complete work. * **"Signed up"** — the same meaning on a Clever roster. * **"Not signed up"** — the student is on the roster but has not signed in yet. Click the row to read why progress is unavailable. * **"Disconnected"** — the student had a Type the Word account and lost the school connection. Ask them to sign in again with the rostered school account. Students who are **"Not signed up"** cannot finish assignments. Send them the matching setup guide before you run class work: * [Set up a Google Classroom student](/google-classroom/student-setup) * [Set up a Clever student](/clever/student-setup) * [Set up a Microsoft Teams student](/microsoft-teams/student-setup) * [Set up a Canvas student](/canvas/student-setup) Once your roster is ready, a good place to start is [running a speed assessment](/classroom/run-a-speed-assessment) so you have a benchmark of where students are in their typing ability. # Create an Assignment Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/create-an-assignment Create one assignment, build a set of assignments, generate practice for a Bible passage, or choose an assignment from a curriculum. ## Create an Assignment From **"Dashboard"**, find **"Assignments"** and click **"Create Assignment"**. You can also use **"Create Assignment"** inside a goal to keep the new work organized under that goal. ![Dashboard Assignments section with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Assignment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/dashboard-assignments.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=db019177aafd5fcb2ce99964dd17b055) Open the menu beside **"Create Assignment"** and choose the kind of work you want to create. ![Create Assignment dialog with the creation menu open and a numbered arrow pointing at it](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-creation-types.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=18dec8ba14a9c6ebf46636b6a2fb3dee) ### Single assignment Choose **"Single assignment"** for one passage. Pick **"Translation"** and **"Passage"**, then customize **"Name"**, **"Mode"**, **"Repetitions"**, and **"Due Date"**. **"Full Typing"** has students type the passage. **"First Letter Recall"**, **"First Letter Only"**, and **"Missing Word"** offer different ways to practice remembering it. When the selected mode offers **"Difficulty"**, use it to adjust the amount of text hidden during practice. **"Repetitions"** sets how many times each student must finish the assigned passage in the selected mode. For example, setting **"Repetitions"** to 3 means each student must complete the passage three times to finish the assignment. ![Single assignment form with numbered arrows pointing at Passage, Mode, and Repetitions](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-single.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=56db2c153d485cf80210544c6c9d17b3) Select **"Create Assignment"** when the assignment is ready. ### Multiple assignments Choose **"Multiple assignments"** to build a set of assignments in one go. Use **"Full Typing"**, **"First Letter"**, **"First Letter Only"**, or **"Missing Word"** at the bottom to add another assignment in that mode. Expand a row in **"Preview"** to edit its passage, name, mode, repetitions, and due date. You can reorder the rows with their drag handles or remove work you do not need. The create button shows how many assignments you will create. ![Multiple assignments preview with the first row expanded and numbered arrows pointing at First Letter and Create 2 Assignments](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-multiple.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=5abfd48bd34e6497c14fe5bf2ac15384) ### Type a book Choose **"Type a book"** to divide a Bible book into assignments. Select **"Translation"** and enter the book in **"Passage"**. Set **"Chapters Per Assignment"** to choose how much work each assignment contains, and set **"Repetitions"** to choose how many times each student must complete each generated assignment. For example, with **"Chapters Per Assignment"** set to 1 and **"Repetitions"** set to 3, students type each assigned chapter three times. ![Type a book form with Philemon selected and numbered arrows pointing at Chapters Per Assignment and Repetitions](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-type-a-book.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=c94af9abe6c2addb6091bbd6ce83c284) Review the generated work in **"Preview"**. Expand a row to adjust its name or due date, then select the create button to create the assignments. ### Memorize verses Choose **"Memorize verses"** to generate a sequence of practice assignments for a passage. Pick **"Translation"** and **"Passage"**. **"Preview"** shows the generated assignments, including their modes and repetitions. ![Memorize verses form for John 3:16 with numbered arrows pointing at Passage and Create 6 Assignments](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-memorize-verses.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=beac44c3b553095b97806641d963d876) Expand a row to customize its name, mode, repetitions, or due date. Change the translation or passage above the preview to generate practice for a different passage. You can also add, remove, or reorder assignments before creating them. Use this option to help students practice a passage over time. To measure what they can recall with the words hidden, [run a memory assessment](/classroom/run-a-memory-assessment). ### From Curriculum Choose **"From Curriculum"** to find an individual assignment in the Curriculum Library. Search for a passage or topic, or narrow the results with **"Source"**, **"Age"**, **"Denomination"**, **"Topic"**, and **"Bible Section"**. ![From Curriculum search results for Advent with numbered arrows pointing at the search field and the first assignment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-from-curriculum.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=d84bdcfb20ff7ae55a0e14a2173f559a) Select an assignment to review and customize it, then click **"Create Assignment"**. ![Selected curriculum assignment with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Assignment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/assignment-curriculum-customize.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=80c2248d523aaeab3248b61f2117c071) To assign a whole curriculum instead, [assign a typing program](/classroom/assign-a-typing-program) or [assign a Bible curriculum](/classroom/assign-a-bible-curriculum) through **"Create Goal"**. ### Speed assessment Choose **"Speed assessment"** to measure typing speed and accuracy using the standard assessment passages. Follow [Run a speed assessment](/classroom/run-a-speed-assessment) for the creation, publication, and results steps. ### Memory assessment Choose **"Memory assessment"** to measure recall of a passage you select. Follow [Run a memory assessment](/classroom/run-a-memory-assessment) for the creation, publication, and results steps. ## Publish your assignments New assignments start in **"Planning"**. In the assignments list or on an assignment's page, open its actions menu and select **"Publish"** to make the assignment available to students. Publish each assignment when you want your class to work on it. # Manage translations Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/manage-translations Set a classroom default Bible translation, choose a translation on an assignment, or set allowed translations for a school. ## Set the classroom default The **"Default translation"** is the translation that assignments and assessments will default to within this classroom. To update **"Default translation"**, you can head to **"Settings"**, and then under **"Classroom"**, there is a **"Default translation"** option. ![Classroom settings with numbered arrows pointing at Settings and Default translation](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/classroom/settings.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=eb39208aa358c476283862979e1b2fa9) ## Set allowed translations By default, students can access all translations in Type the Word, but specifying **"Allowed translations"** allows you to prevent your students from accessing translations you don't approve of. ![School settings with numbered arrows pointing at School and Allowed translations](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/classroom/school-translations.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=b1c4dcfa0b4350fde6310469727ff427) If you are using Clever or Canvas, this control may only be accessed by a district administrator or school staff. ## Choose a translation on an assignment Creating an assignment or speed assessment pre-fills **"Translation"** from the classroom default. Change **"Translation"** on that form when one passage should use a different Bible translation. Only translations in **"Allowed translations"** appear in the list. ![Create Assignment dialog in speed assessment mode with a numbered arrow pointing at Translation](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/PKmH5k6w6E3g6eyQ/images/teachers/create-speed-assessment-translation.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=PKmH5k6w6E3g6eyQ\&q=85\&s=feedf4811ce6d07eb392ebb8d4f8d664) You will find the same **"Translation"** field anywhere you can create an assignment. # Meet the class Dashboard Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/meet-the-class-dashboard The Dashboard is a great place to get an overview of your class. It shows the goals you are working toward, the assignments you have created, and your class's speed improvements over time. ![Classroom Dashboard with numbered arrows pointing at Create Goal, Create Speed Assessment, and Create Assignment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/dashboard.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=cd955c57d5fb73a975dcf29f36d08351) ## Switching Between Classrooms If you teach more than one class, you can swap between them here. ![Classroom sidebar with the classroom selector open and a numbered arrow pointing at it](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/classroom-selector.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=72ff58b6a137f9f85ec2bbd764ac0d8c) ## Goals **"Goals"** are a great way to stay organized. Over a few weeks or your entire semester, you can use them to group assignments under one common theme. ![Dashboard Goals section with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Goal](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/dashboard-goals.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=af836f65834bca13e4fb7c131cc74c08) **"Goals"** are also the umbrella for how you use a curriculum. We will talk more about this when we cover [assigning a typing program](/classroom/assign-a-typing-program) or [using a Bible curriculum](/classroom/assign-a-bible-curriculum). ## Assignments At the bottom of **"Dashboard"** are all of your current **"Assignments"**. An assignment is a batch of work your students can work through. Each one maps to an assignment in your LMS, and a speed assessment is just a specific type of assignment. ![Dashboard Assignments section with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Assignment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/dashboard-assignments.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=db019177aafd5fcb2ce99964dd17b055) [Create an assignment](/classroom/create-an-assignment) explains each way to build work for your class. Until you **"Publish"** an assignment, it will not be visible to your students. ## Speed Assessments **"Speed Assessments"** are how you can get a snapshot of your class's typing skills. [Running a speed assessment](/classroom/run-a-speed-assessment) once a month is a great way to see your students' progress over time. Once you have multiple speed assessments, the aggregate speed and accuracy of your class will be plotted in this section. ![Dashboard Speed Assessments section with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Speed Assessment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/dashboard-speed-assessments.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=c7d38440467d3b5bcf3a93e9e51cfbe3) # Monitor Student Progress Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/monitor-student-progress See your students' progress typing through the Bible, how often they're typing, and how their skills are improving over time. ## Bible Progress **"Bible Progress"** shows how much of the Bible the student has typed. Under the heading is a count of distinct verses typed, with a percentage. Each book they have started appears in the list. If they have not typed Scripture yet, you will see **"No Bible typing activity yet."** ![Student progress drawer with a numbered arrow pointing at Bible Progress](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/student-progress-bible.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=df7ffb59a72c8ca61bce2439f505628d) ## Typing Consistency **"Typing Consistency"** is a great way to get a picture of how often your students are typing. You can hover on a specific day to see where a student typed that day. ## Typing Proficiency **"Typing Proficiency"** shows your students' speed and accuracy over time. **"Corrected"** is their accuracy after they have corrected their mistakes. There is also a **"Mode"** selector for comparing their speed in **"General Typing"** versus their speed during **"Speed Assessments"**. # Run a Memory Assessment Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/run-a-memory-assessment Choose a passage, publish a memory assessment, and review how much your students recall and where they need more practice. ## Create a memory assessment From **"Dashboard"**, find **"Assignments"** and click **"Create Assignment"**. Open the menu beside **"Create Assignment"** and choose **"Memory assessment"**. Customize **"Translation"**, **"Passage"**, **"Name"**, and **"Due Date"**. Choose a passage your students have been practicing. The translation starts with your classroom default; [Manage translations](/classroom/manage-translations) explains how to change that default. ![Memory assessment creation form with numbered arrows pointing at the creation menu, Show actual Scripture, and Create Assessment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/create-memory-assessment.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=250d5c56b4f0036e2a144534284bd843) ## Check the passage preview **"Preview"** starts with the words hidden, as students will see them. Click **"Show actual Scripture"** to check the passage, then **"Show what students will see"** to return to the hidden-word view. ![Memory assessment preview showing the Scripture with a numbered arrow pointing at Show what students will see](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/memory-assessment-preview.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=c9dd56fa77efa5d2257f5934b921bea4) Select **"Create Assessment"** when you are ready. The assessment starts in **"Planning"**. ## Publish for your class On the assessment page, select **"Publish"** so students can access it. Have students open Type the Word and complete the assessment. ![Memory assessment page with a numbered arrow pointing at Publish](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/memory-assessment-publish.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=8fb7084296bf05126b87b1f4fc1ff6c1) Students type the passage with its words hidden. They can use hints when they need help, and the results distinguish words recalled independently from words completed with help. ## Review your students' results Open the assessment to see **"Student progress"**. **"Completion"** shows how much of the assessment each student has finished. **"Recall"** is the percentage of words completed without a hint or three or more first-letter guesses. **"Accuracy"** measures typing accuracy. ![Memory assessment Student progress table with numbered arrows pointing at Completion, Recall, and Accuracy](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/memory-assessment-report.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=402dde6edfbf9483edcba788f668635f) **"Explicit hints"** counts words where a student requested help. **"Guesses used"** counts words whose first letter was missed three or more times. Capitalization-only misses do not count as guesses. Hints and guesses lower recall; guesses alone do not lower accuracy. A student's status changes to **"Completed"** after finishing the assessment. Select a student's row to open their detailed results. After they finish, you can see their recall and accuracy, hints and guesses, corrected words, and words left incorrect. The passage highlights show which words need more practice. ![Completed student memory assessment results with numbered arrows pointing at recall and hints used](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/memory-assessment-student-result.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=a9bcc35f34c90085cb25e880cb1487f7) For more practice before another assessment, use **"Memorize verses"** when [creating assignments](/classroom/create-an-assignment). # Run a Speed Assessment Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/classroom/run-a-speed-assessment Once a month, it is a great idea to create and publish a speed assessment so you can get a snapshot of where your students are. ## Create a speed assessment From **"Dashboard"**, select **"Create Speed Assessment"**. ![Dashboard Speed Assessments section with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Speed Assessment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/teachers/dashboard-speed-assessments.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=c7d38440467d3b5bcf3a93e9e51cfbe3) You can customize the name, **"Translation"**, and **"Due date"**, then select **"Create Assessment"**. Students type **"Psalm 23:1–3"**, **"John 3:16"**, and the Lord's Prayer (**"Matthew 6:9–13"**). For Fall 2026, every school uses these same passages so you can get a grade-level percentile for your class. In Spring 2027, we will update them with new passages to give your students a new challenge while keeping that same consistency across classrooms. ![Create Assignment dialog in speed assessment mode with a numbered arrow pointing at Create Assessment](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/PKmH5k6w6E3g6eyQ/images/teachers/create-speed-assessment.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=PKmH5k6w6E3g6eyQ\&q=85\&s=e93e8066af549464c9b928d9bddb0a1d) The initial value of your **"Translation"** field is the classroom default. If you ever want to customize this, head to **"Settings"**. [Manage translations](/classroom/manage-translations) shows how. ## Publish to share this with your class After you create the speed assessment, its details page opens. Select **"Publish"** so your students can access it. ![Speed assessment details page with a numbered arrow pointing at Publish](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/PKmH5k6w6E3g6eyQ/images/teachers/speed-assessment-detail.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=PKmH5k6w6E3g6eyQ\&q=85\&s=78f23f805b1bc59ca7723f13c3a0200b) Then have students open Type the Word and complete it during class. After they have completed their speed assessment, **"Student progress"** will show each student's speed and accuracy. Their status will change to **"Completed"** once they have finished the assessment. ![Student progress table on a speed assessment with numbered arrows pointing at Completion, WPM, and Accuracy](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7/images/teachers/speed-assessment-report.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=SuTxYBMWqeJmmUz7\&q=85\&s=6dc94d74bdbb0c05cac7b3c879ec3c38) If you think they need more work on the fundamentals of typing, you can [assign a typing program](/classroom/assign-a-typing-program). Or if you think they just need more volume, you can [assign a Bible curriculum](/classroom/assign-a-bible-curriculum). # Set up Clever for your district Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/clever/admin-setup Approve Type the Word, share the correct Clever roster, and verify the first synchronization. ## Prerequisites * Clever district administrator access ## Approve and share Type the Word **1. Open the application workflow** In the Clever Dashboard, go to **"Applications"** → **"Add Applications"**. Search for Type the Word, then select **"Request App"**. Review the requested Secure Sync data before you send the request. **2. Choose what to share** Select **"Begin setup"**. Choose **"Share specific sections, teachers, students, and/or staff"** and add two rules: 1. **"Custom Share by Admin"** (and **"Custom Share by Staff"** if you need School Tech Leads) for the people who should see billing. Share as many **"Clever Admin"** or **"School Tech Lead"** accounts as you want. 2. **"Custom Share by Section"** for only the sections that will use Type the Word. Type the Word bills per student, so extra admins do not add cost. Only share the sections that will use Type the Word, because billing follows the number of students in those sections. **3. Assign the application** On **"Finalize Setup"**, check the **"Launch Date"**, then select **"Finish"**. Shared teachers and students will see the Type the Word tile in the Clever Portal once the app is enabled. You can add Type the Word to a Portal category so it is not under **"More Apps"**. ## Wait for Type the Word to be enabled Assigning the application is a request for access. Josh will enable your district, then run the first roster synchronization. When that finishes, verify the roster below. If you have not gotten a confirmation email or a response within 24 hours, email Josh at [josh@typetheword.com](mailto:josh@typetheword.com). ## Verify the roster 1. Launch Type the Word with an administrator account. Open the Type the Word tile in the Clever Portal, or copy the **"Instant Login Link"** from **"Settings"** on Type the Word in **"My Applications"**. 2. Confirm the expected schools and classrooms appear. 3. Open a classroom and compare its teachers and students with Clever. ## Setup complete Administrator setup is complete when the expected schools, classes, teachers, and students are present in Type the Word. Continue with [teacher setup](/clever/teacher-setup). ## Troubleshooting * **No schools or sections appear:** Review the sharing scope in Clever. * **A user is missing:** Teachers and students must belong to a section in your **"Custom Share by Section"** rule. Admins and School Tech Leads must be included in **"Custom Share by Admin"** or **"Custom Share by Staff"**. * **Old roster data remains:** Type the Word syncs your roster nightly. To update it now, follow [Manually sync your roster](/clever/manual-sync). * **The Clever tile is unavailable:** Confirm the application is assigned to the affected users. # Get started with Clever Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/clever/index This guide walks you through Clever authentication and rostering in Type the Word. Type the Word uses Clever Secure Sync to import your roster and allow members of your school to open Type the Word in one click. Select **"Continue with Google"** if you use Google Classroom, or **"Continue with Microsoft"** if you use Microsoft Teams. 3. Sign in with the same identity you used for your school account. 4. When Type the Word says the account is already set up as a student or teacher, select **"click here"** in the conversion message. ![Individual login with a numbered arrow pointing at click here in the teacher-to-individual conversion message](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/accounts/school-to-individual-conversion-message.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=e1a0cf54f43903bb7c889da6839353c5) 5. Review the warning, then select **"Convert account"**. ![Convert your teacher account to individual page with a numbered arrow pointing at Convert account](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj/images/accounts/school-to-individual-confirmation.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3F3SFTZ78FXVBjnj\&q=85\&s=ac7927b97f735ee60c04e39b6d9d8a1a) 6. Sign in again to open the individual account. Your typing activity stays with the account, but school classrooms and school sign-in are disconnected. After conversion, choose **"Individual"** when you log in. > [!NOTE] > > These screenshots show a **"Teacher"** account. A **"Student"** account > follows the same steps and shows student-specific wording. ## Troubleshooting * **The conversion link expired:** Return to the login page and repeat the sign-in attempt. Conversion links expire after 15 minutes. * **The account is linked somewhere else:** Do not create another account. [Contact Type the Word support](mailto:hello@typetheword.com) for help joining the identities. * **The wrong account type appears:** Select **"Start over"** on the login page, then choose **"Individual"**, **"Student"**, or **"Teacher"** again. # Enable Google Classroom in Google Workspace Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/google-classroom/enable-google-workspace Allow Type the Word in Google Workspace so teachers and students can sign in with Google and use Classroom features. This guide walks through granting app access in the Google Admin console for Google sign-in and Google Classroom scopes. > [!NOTE] > > Type the Word currently appears as two web app entries in the app list. > Configure both entries. ## Why there are two app entries 1. **Official Type the Word OAuth app:** Used for the main sign-in flow and basic identity data such as email and first name. 2. **Type the Word Google Classroom integration app:** Allows Type the Word to access Google Classroom data for the user's Google account. For the smoothest setup, configure and enable both entries. ## Prerequisites * Google Workspace administrator access * Permission to open **Security > Access and data control > API controls** ## Configure app access **1. Open the Google Admin console** Go to [admin.google.com](https://admin.google.com), confirm you are signed in with an administrator account, and open **Security** in the left navigation. ![Google Admin home with Security and API controls available](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/Hr_7u4XUjtJrD-3R/images/google-classroom/enable-google-workspace/step-1-admin-home.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Hr_7u4XUjtJrD-3R\&q=85\&s=df604d7518d6dbcc191fa295f91df27d) **2. Open [Type the Word Classes](https://www.typetheword.com/classroom). 2. Test the teacher sign-in flow. 3. Test the student sign-in flow. Both flows should complete without an access-denied error. ## Troubleshooting * **Only one app configured:** Make sure both Type the Word entries are configured. * **Access denied on sign-in:** Recheck the data-access choice and scope settings. * **Teachers work but students fail, or vice versa:** One app entry likely has mismatched access settings. * **Policy blocks app access:** Check organization-level security restrictions and required approval workflows. # Get started with Google Classroom Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/google-classroom/index Set up Type the Word for your Google Workspace, teachers, and students. Type the Word uses Google Classroom to bring your existing courses and rosters into the app. Teachers and students use the same school Google accounts they already use for Classroom. ## Before you begin * Choose a Google Workspace administrator to approve Type the Word. * Confirm teachers and students already have the correct Classroom roles and course memberships. * Ask everyone to use the same school Google account in Type the Word and Google Classroom. ## Onboarding path **1. Continue by sharing the [student setup guide](/google-classroom/student-setup). ## Troubleshooting * **No classes appear:** Confirm you selected the Google account that teaches the course and that the course is active. * **Google blocks access:** Ask your Workspace administrator to confirm both Type the Word OAuth applications are approved. * **Teacher role is not recognized:** Confirm you are listed as a teacher in at least one active Google Classroom course and have accepted the invitation. If not, ask the course owner or a Google Classroom administrator to add you, then try signing in again. * **A student is missing:** Add the student in Google Classroom, then reload Type the Word. # Get Started Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/index Choose your school's learning platform and follow the onboarding path for administrators, teachers, and students. Type the Word works with the class lists and school accounts your community already uses. Choose your integration to see the right setup sequence. ## Choose your integration > **[Google Classroom](/google-classroom)** > > Use Google Workspace accounts, Classroom courses, and rosters. > **[Clever](/clever)** > > Launch from Clever and synchronize district roster data. > **[Microsoft Teams](/microsoft-teams)** > > Use Microsoft school accounts and Education classes. > **[Canvas](/canvas)** > > Connect your SIS through AnySchool, then send assignments and grades to > Canvas. ## How onboarding works Every integration follows the same handoff: 1. **An administrator** approves Type the Word and makes the correct classes available. 2. **A teacher** signs in with a school account and verifies the class roster. 3. **Students** sign in with their rostered accounts and confirm they can open their class. Each guide has its own URL, so you can send administrators, teachers, and students directly to the page they need. ## After setup > **[Students](/students/find-assignments)** > > Find assignments, type Scripture, and see your progress. > **[Manage your class](/classroom/meet-the-class-dashboard)** > > Meet the class Dashboard, then confirm students are connected, run speed > assessments, and check progress. > **[Available Curriculum](/curriculum)** > > Preview Keyboard Foundations, Keyboard Proficiency, and The Story of > Scripture. > **[How billing works in Type the Word](/faq/how-billing-works-within-ttw)** > > Review pricing, classroom coverage, renewals, and payment links. # Approve Type the Word for Microsoft Teams Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/microsoft-teams/admin-setup Approve during sign-in, review a teacher's request by email or in Microsoft Entra, or use the direct approval link. ## Before you begin * Use an administrator account in the same school organization as the teacher. * You need permission to grant organization-wide consent, such as the Cloud Application Administrator or Application Administrator role. A Teams administrator role alone does not establish this permission. See [Microsoft's consent roles](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/enterprise-apps/grant-admin-consent#prerequisites). * Confirm the application is **"Type the Word Classroom"**, with application ID `79e1439e-ff70-46de-b0e9-e41b1831ac08`. Choose one approval method below. A teacher does not have to start setup before you can use the direct link. ## Approve during sign-in If you are an administrator signing in to Type the Word and Microsoft shows **"Permissions requested"**: 1. Confirm you are using the school administrator account and review the permissions. 2. Select **"Consent on behalf of your organization"**. 3. Select **"Accept"**. ![Microsoft permissions prompt for Type the Word Classroom with "Consent on behalf of your organization" unchecked and an "Accept" button](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/Yr1q_tJnMzYTju91/images/microsoft-teams/admin-setup/organization-consent.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Yr1q_tJnMzYTju91\&q=85\&s=4a92e0cde1ea59cfe27e038dc1724feb) The checkbox starts unchecked. Leaving it unchecked does not grant organization-wide consent. Its availability depends on the administrator's role and the consent flow; use the direct link below if it is missing. See [Microsoft's consent-screen guidance](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity-platform/application-consent-experience). ## Approve a teacher's request A teacher can select **"Request approval"** during [teacher setup](/microsoft-teams/teacher-setup#request-administrator-approval) if your school has enabled Microsoft's admin consent workflow. The request can be reviewed through either route below. ### From the notification email 1. Open Microsoft's request notification in the configured reviewer's mailbox. 2. Follow the email's review link and sign in with the school reviewer account. 3. Open the Type the Word request and select **"Review permissions and consent"**. 4. Review the permissions and select **"Accept"** to approve. Emails go to the school's designated reviewers when notifications are enabled, rather than to every administrator. Reviewers also need a role authorized to grant consent. To check recipients and notifications, open **"Entra ID"** → **"Enterprise apps"** → **"Consent and permissions"** → **"Admin consent settings"**. See [Microsoft's workflow settings](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/enterprise-apps/configure-admin-consent-workflow). ### From Microsoft Entra 1. Sign in to the [Microsoft Entra admin center](https://entra.microsoft.com/) as a designated reviewer authorized to grant consent. 2. Open **"Entra ID"** → **"Enterprise apps"**. 3. Under **"Activity"**, select **"Admin consent requests"**. 4. In **"My Pending"**, select **"Type the Word Classroom"**. ![Microsoft Entra with numbered callouts for "Enterprise apps", "Admin consent requests", and the "Type the Word Classroom" request in "My Pending"](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/Yr1q_tJnMzYTju91/images/microsoft-teams/admin-setup/admin-consent-requests.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Yr1q_tJnMzYTju91\&q=85\&s=15d8e231fb4d9d6ae6d2d4b92d0a0249) 5. Select **"Review permissions and consent"**. 6. Review the permissions and select **"Accept"** to approve. ![Microsoft Entra request details with numbered callouts for "Type the Word Classroom" and "Review permissions and consent"](https://mintcdn.com/type-the-word/Yr1q_tJnMzYTju91/images/microsoft-teams/admin-setup/review-permissions.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Yr1q_tJnMzYTju91\&q=85\&s=705ac457ec5233e9ca21cf63df1b8336) Use **"My Pending"** to act on requests; **"All (Preview)"** shows request history. See [Microsoft's request-review instructions](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/enterprise-apps/review-admin-consent-requests). ## Approve with the direct link Use this method before teacher setup, when the teacher cannot request approval, or when you cannot find a request. 1. Open [Approve Type the Word](https://login.microsoftonline.com/organizations/adminconsent?client_id=79e1439e-ff70-46de-b0e9-e41b1831ac08). 2. Sign in with your school administrator account. Confirm the organization is the teacher's school, especially if you manage multiple organizations. 3. Review the requested permissions and select **"Accept"**. You do not need to find or manually add the app in Entra first. The link's `organizations` value uses the signed-in administrator's home tenant; `client_id` identifies Type the Word's application. See [Microsoft's direct consent-link guidance](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/enterprise-apps/grant-admin-consent#construct-the-url-for-granting-tenant-wide-admin-consent). ## Verify approval Ask the teacher to return to [teacher setup](/microsoft-teams/teacher-setup), choose **"Teacher"** → **"Continue with Microsoft"**, and use their own school account. Confirm they can open the expected class and student roster without an approval-required message. Administrator consent approves the application for the organization. Teachers still sign in individually to synchronize their classes. ## Troubleshooting * **Approval keeps looping:** Switching Microsoft accounts alone does not approve the app. Use one of the approval methods above with an authorized school administrator. * **No request email or pending request:** Check the configured reviewers and email setting. If the request is unavailable, use the direct link. * **The app is missing from Entra's application list:** Use the direct link instead of trying to add it manually. * **A personal account opens:** Sign out and choose the school or work account. * **Teacher still sees approval required:** Confirm consent was granted for the teacher's organization, then retry sign-in. Ask your administrator to check any required user assignment or other access policy. If it still fails, send the error screenshot to [Type the Word support](mailto:josh@typetheword.com). # Get started with Microsoft Teams Source: https://docs.typetheword.com/microsoft-teams/index Approve Type the Word for your school, then sign in as a teacher and verify classes before students get started. ## Before you begin * A teacher who can start Microsoft Teams sign-in with a school account * A Microsoft Entra administrator authorized to approve applications for your school ## Onboarding path **1. Teacher starts setup** A teacher begins [Microsoft Teams teacher setup](/microsoft-teams/teacher-setup). If Microsoft asks for administrator approval, the teacher requests approval or shares the [administrator setup guide](/microsoft-teams/admin-setup) with their administrator. **2. Administrator approves** The administrator [approves for the school](/microsoft-teams/admin-setup) during sign-in, from a teacher's request by email or in Microsoft Entra, or with the direct approval link. Choose one method; administrators can also approve before a teacher starts. **3. Teacher finishes** After approval, the teacher signs in again and verifies classes on the same [teacher setup](/microsoft-teams/teacher-setup) page. **4.
