# Enable Google Classroom in Google Workspace

> Allow Type the Word in Google Workspace so teachers and students can sign in with Google and use Classroom features.

This guide walks through granting app access in the Google Admin console for Google sign-in and Google Classroom scopes.

<Info>
  Type the Word currently appears as two web app entries in the app list.
  Configure both entries.
</Info>

## Why there are two app entries

1. **Official Type the Word OAuth app:** Used for the main sign-in flow and basic identity data such as email and first name.
2. **Type the Word Google Classroom integration app:** Allows Type the Word to access Google Classroom data for the user's Google account.

For the smoothest setup, configure and enable both entries.

## Prerequisites

* Google Workspace administrator access
* Permission to open **Security > Access and data control > API controls**

## Configure app access

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Google Admin console">
    Go to [admin.google.com](https://admin.google.com), confirm you are
    signed in with an administrator account, and open **Security** in the
    left navigation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open API controls">
    Open **Access and data control**, select **API controls**, and then
    select **Manage app access**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start configuring an app">
    On **App access control**, select **Configure new app**. Stay on the
    default **App** step in the wizard.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find Type the Word">
    Search for `type the word`, select one **Type The Word** web app entry,
    and select **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the users">
    In the **Scope** step, choose **All in Type the Word (all users)**, or
    your organization's equivalent all-users option, and select
    **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Allow Google data access">
    Choose either **Specific Google data** with the listed Classroom and
    sign-in scopes or **Trusted** if your security policy allows broad
    trust. Then select **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and finish">
    Review the app, scope, and data settings, then select **Finish**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Repeat for the second entry">
    Return to **Configure new app**, search for `type the word`, select the
    other Type the Word web app entry, and repeat the scope and access
    steps.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Verify in Type the Word

After both app entries are configured:

1. Open [Type the Word Classes](https://www.typetheword.com/classroom).
2. Test the teacher sign-in flow.
3. Test the student sign-in flow.

Both flows should complete without an access-denied error.

## Troubleshooting

* **Only one app configured:** Make sure both Type the Word entries are configured.
* **Access denied on sign-in:** Recheck the data-access choice and scope settings.
* **Teachers work but students fail, or vice versa:** One app entry likely has mismatched access settings.
* **Policy blocks app access:** Check organization-level security restrictions and required approval workflows.
